There’s something romantic and whimsical about the idea of getting married in the heart of Tuscany. But sometimes planning a wedding overseas isn’t in the cards. Fortunately, you can bring Italy to you by designing a Tuscan-themed wedding here in Australia.
In this post, I’m sharing ideas and inspiration to help you design a Tuscan themed wedding without having to get on a plane. Let’s start with the wedding venue – where you’ll set the scene for your Italian soiree.
Tuscan themed Wedding Venue
When designing your Tuscan-inspired wedding, the first thing you’ll want to consider is the wedding venue. From the style to the location, these details will set the foundation for the style, decor, florals, food and more.
You should also consider whether the venue has an outdoor option that looks out over the rolling countryside. This aesthetic is common for countryside weddings in Tuscany and will truly set the scene for your special day.
Finally, don’t forget the weather. Spring and Fall weddings are the perfect time to give an ode to those warm Italian nights under the stars. A few of my favourite wedding venues that would suit a Tuscan-themed wedding include:
Style and Decor
Once you decide on your wedding venue, it’s time to consider the overall style and wedding decor. Of course, these elements are the perfect opportunity to bring your Tuscan wedding dreams to life. Design features like table decor can use colour and texture that exudes Italy.
You might also want to think about using light to help style your wedding. For example, a popular feature of Tuscan-themed weddings is outdoor dining with long tables that sit under strings of fairy or festoon lights. Of course, these design concepts will depend on the venue and your stylist.
Tuscan Floral Arrangements
Depending on the style of your venue, you may want to embellish the tables, bar and ceremony location with floral arrangements. A common theme for Tuscan themed weddings is garden style flowers. These arrangements feel like you plucked them out of the garden that morning.
They are understated, romantic and thoughtful. Common flower colours in Tuscany include lush greens, crisp white, bright reds, purples and pops of warmer colours. Lush fabrics running down the middle of the tables can also add a beautiful element of texture to your table setting.
Tuscan Themed Wedding Invitations and Stationery
Post covid, there are more European inspired weddings being held here in Melbourne and around Australia. Consider choosing paper goods and stationery that are inspired by Tuscany to round out your Tuscan inspired wedding. Think hand made paper, calligraphy, warmer tones and hand drawn illustrations that reflect the Italian countryside.
Wedding Photography
When you think of your Tuscan themed wedding, a certain image or photo might pop into your head. If you want to recreate these moments, you’ll need to carefully select your photographer and consider their style and aesthetic.
Depending on the venue, it might also help to have two wedding photographers so you can rest assured that all of the candid moments are captured. Finally, think about having the option for film photos to capture the wedding from a different medium.
Food and Drink
To bring your Tuscan-inspired wedding together, make sure your food and drink suit the theme. Share plates, Tuscan twists on classics and canapes are not only fun to plan but delicious to eat and will wow your guests.
You could also have Italian-inspired cocktails like an Aperol Spritz on arrival and only Italian weddings on the menu. If you were having your wedding in Italy, they would likely use local, fresh produce, so try working with a caterer or chef with the same approach.
Bonus: Recovery
To keep the theme going throughout the weekend, plan a Tuscan-themed recovery. Some ideas include booking an Italian restaurant with BYO, renting a house with a pool in the countryside or hosting a big Italian cook-up for the afternoon.
Your Tuscan Themed Wedding
With a setting as beautiful as the countryside in Australia, it’s easy to design a Tuscan-themed wedding and actually feel like you’re in Italy. I recommend starting with the venue, food, decor and photography. Depending on the size of your wedding, it might also help to work with a wedding planner or stylist.
